attachment issues. due to his parents obvious hatred of him, he tended to feel like no one cared about him, including his sister. this led to getting easily attached to anyone who showed they cared..
001 : childhood. ( age: 0 to 12 ) born to Richard and lauren ryans, kingsley was originally supposed to be a savior sibling. he didn't fail, however, his elder brother ended up dying about five years later due to a drunk driver. somehow his parents were able to twist that to being kingsley's fault as well, even telling his elder sister that it was his fault - and she believed them. he would often get himself into trouble at school or injuries at home to get their attention, and they cared when he was injured, so he did that quite often. the care only lasted the time the injury did, however, and at the age of twelve, Kingsley ran away from Metropolis and towards Gotham City.002 : Gotham City - year 1--5. ( age 12 through 16 ) Homelessness was hard on Kingsley - he went from being extremely comfortable to having no home, no food, no bed, no shelter, nothing. he made do, though. he'd been a scrappy little kid even before running away, and fending for himself wasn't super hard. he made a small living by busking on the sides of the street - the occasional good samaratin giving the kid some pocket change that he turned around and spent on the other homeless. he made good friends with a homeless veteran, Robert, and would spend any money he made on the man. the man died when Kingsley was sixteen, and Kingsley still goes to visit the older man's unmarked grave.003 : Gotham City - Year 6--8. ( age: 17 through 19 ) At 17, Kingsley was a victim of an attempt from the scarecrow to get to a vigilante. he doesn't remember much of it, as he was dealing with hallucinations from the fear gas, so he really only remembers the hallucinations and a kind voice telling him that his parents weren't there, that no one would hurt him. he woke up the next day in an ER, and was sent to a group home when he begged them not to call his parents. once he was eighteen, he packed up his minuscule amount of stuff and left. he applied to the firefighter academy almost immediately, but with no home to call his own, he had to drop out within the week. he ended up getting a job at a local coffee shop. at nineteen, he was living with a group of frat boys who weren't actually part of a frat, but they sure acted like it.004 : Gotham City - year 9--now. twenty years old, he'd saved enough to get himself a rundown apartment. and twenty one years old he was back at the academy, training to be one of Gotham's best firefighters. He graduated top of his class, but didn't get a job until he was twenty-four because of an accident that caused him to gain his powers, and he refused to get an actual job until he'd gotten his powers under check. he still doesn't have the 'empath' ability down, but he found that it was hard to not help.
